Benefits of Invisalign®
Many people can appreciate how a confident smile can impact their influence on others. While some may accept crooked teeth and unsightly gaps as a quirky definition of their character, there are others who would rather display a perfectly aligned smile. Here at Perrinville Family Dentistry we know what it means to make a strong first impression and would like to help you achieve your ideal image.
How Alignment Straightens Teeth
To be able to benefit from braces, first, you may need to understand how they work. In traditional braces, which are the blocky metal brackets that fit over the front of your tooth, wires are applied in such a way as to slowly guide your teeth into a better position. It can take a few years, depending on what is being treated. On average, you can expect to wear standard metal braces for about a year and a half.
Some would rather not have to deal with the responsibility of brackets and rubber bands on their teeth which are visible every time they open their mouth to speak, especially for something that is not really much more than aesthetic. For those who would rather give their smile a lift, without being incredibly obvious about it, there is another option which may be much less noticeable.
Invisalign®: The Invisible Braces
Through the advancement of modern technology which has benefitted many of the fields in dentistry, 3D imaging can create an instant picture of your mouth to use for creating a mold of your teeth. Using special programs on the device, we can show you how your teeth may look in a projected amount of time during alignment. For some, this may be enough to encourage them to want to take on the responsibility of braces.
A three-dimensional plastic aligner is created based off of what your mold suggested in the treatment plan. Because they are clear, it is unlikely anybody will be able to see them. It is strongly encouraged that you wear them for at least twenty hours a day or you might not get the results you are wanting. You will need to take them off before eating or brushing your teeth so you will not damage the plastic. This also helps prevent staining from food as well.
Whereas traditional braces need to be adjusted about once a month, aligners will need to be created fresh about every two weeks. Because they are switched out so often, you can expect your treatment to take half the time as standard metal braces. It does require a high level of personal responsibility to use aligners because of the dedication to wearing them daily. However, after the treatment, you may find yourself smiling not just in pride of your incredible teeth but also a personal achievement in self-discipline.
