Broken Tooth
Edmonds, WA

A woman smiling after having a broken tooth repaired at Perrinville Family Dentistry in Edmonds, WAVeneers have gained immense popularity due to many actors and actresses confessing to having them done to build their dazzling smiles. Many patients have started to seek them out to improve their own smiles, especially if they have broken or damaged teeth.

Veneers are applied to the visible portion of a patient’s teeth and made of thin bits of porcelain. Not only do they help protect teeth but give an overall improvement to the teeth’s appearance and to the patient’s smile. Easily colored to match the patient’s natural tooth color, they look completely natural once placed.

Whether placed on a single tooth or applied across several teeth, they provide a rather inexpensive, noninvasive answer to improving a patient’s teeth. Please contact us here at our Perrinville Family Dentistry office so we can talk about the options available.

Preparing the Teeth

Your broken or damaged teeth in need of veneers will have to be prepared before they can be placed. This is done by removing some of the tooth enamel at a very minimal depth. It typically matches the thickness of the veneer to be applied. This is done to ensure the width of the tooth is the same after the veneer is fixed in place as it was prior to placing it. If it is thicker, then it can change the bite motion of the patient.

It is not a painful procedure and considered non-invasive, but some patients can still have some anxiety about it. For those patients, we do offer a local anesthetic to dull the sensation so they can be comfortable and relaxed through the procedure.

The Process

Patients will be happy to know the entire process from preparing the teeth to the actual veneer placement can be done in the span of two appointments. In the first visit, a patient’s teeth are prepared as mentioned above, having a thin layer of enamel removed. Molds are then made of the teeth so the exact placement can be planned to accurately place them.

Once the molds are made and the proper placement has been explored and finalized, the second appointment is scheduled. This is the appointment where the actual veneers are applied to the teeth. We are able to let the patient see where the veneers will be placed, so if they are unhappy with the placement, we can make adjustments to their satisfaction.

We also ask the patient to see how the veneers feel for a few weeks before they ask for changes and adjustments. It can take a little bit for the patient to adjust to how the new veneers feel.

Once they are completely bonded with the tooth and deemed secure, we can polish and clean them just like a normal tooth during routine exams and professional cleanings. It is important that patients continue to care for veneers as if they were their natural teeth by flossing and brushing their teeth regularly. With proper care, veneers can last for more than 10 years.
