Dentures - Complete & Partial

Rendering of removable partial dentureAt Perrinville Family Dentistry you can get professional help on all types of dentures. Dentures are removable dental appliances used to replace all or part of a person’s teeth. Dentures are custom made to resemble natural teeth and give the patient a beautiful smile.

It takes some time for dentures to feel like natural teeth. Initially, speaking and eating may seem difficult. You will find that you gradually get used to using the dentures over time, however. They can be placed into two categories: partial and full dentures. Which is best for you will depend on several factors. Our team will consult with you to help ensure you get the dentures that are just right for you.

Partial Dentures

Partial dentures are removable dentures that are attached temporarily to the teeth. They are perfect for patients that have a few missing teeth that need replacing. Usually, partial dentures are attached to your natural teeth using a metal framework. They can also be held in place with specially made adhesives. Partial dentures are fragile, unlike full dentures, and they should be cleaned daily to remove dirt and food particles.

Complete Dentures

Also known as full dentures, complete dentures are recommended when a patient has lost all their natural teeth. They are perfect for restoring oral health and help make an attractive smile. A complete denture can either be immediate or conventional. Immediate dentures are ready-made dentures fixed immediately when the teeth are lost or removed. This prevents patients from going toothless during the healing phase. When the tissues heal and shrink, adjustments can be made. This phase can take up to six weeks for most individuals.

We will use a conventional complete denture after the teeth have been removed or lost from the mouth, and the gum tissues have healed completely. This usually takes between 4-6 weeks. During this period, the patient will go toothless unless we provide them with temporary dentures in the meantime.

Many patients will experience discomfort and lack of proper chewing ability for a long time after having their teeth replaced with dentures. In such circumstances, the dentures may be secured firmly using dental implants.

How Will Dentures Make You Feel?

Dentures may make you feel uncomfortable in the first few weeks, and your tongue might become difficult to keep in place. It’s also normal to feel soreness, minor irritation, and an influx of saliva from the mouth. Fortunately, these problems will fade off as your mouth gets accustomed to the dentures.

Will Dentures Make You Look Different?

We will custom make your dentures, so they enhance your facial appearance and improve your smile. Since dentures are made to resemble your natural teeth, there shouldn’t be any noticeable changes in your appearance when you wear dentures.

Despite these benefits, dentures aren’t for everyone. Your mouth may need a different option to restore your missing teeth. You need to be completely sure if dentures are the best option for you. Visit us at Perrinville Family Dentistry or call (425) 616-0620 for more information.
